Where did you grow up? Good ol’ Springville, Utah 🙂

What is your favorite food? I am a carb lady! I love bread! Cheese sticks, bread sticks, Magleby’s and Red Lobster rolls, and most of all pasta! Fettuccini Alfredo. Yum!

What is your least favorite food? Mushrooms

What is something unique or surprising about you? I love cemeteries. Specifically one cemetery. Growing up I would climb it’s trees and read the stories. I loved watching the sunset in the cemetery. It was my place. Also, we love reptiles at our house. We have lots of fun reptile pets!

What is your favorite subject to teach? I love teaching foundational skills.  It’s so amazing to watch these kids learn to read and write within a few shorts months. I also love teaching science. Science is an easy subject to ignite the child’s natural curiosity. I love hearing my students so intrigued by a subject they being asking their own questions.

Who was your favorite teacher and why? My favorite teacher was my 3rd grade teacher– Mrs. Kirkpatrick. We still keep in touch. She and her husband took me out for ice cream as a little girl, and I felt like she sincerely loved me. She listened to me and she heard me.

Why did you choose to be a teacher? It’s what I’ve known I would do my whole life. I love being the person that a child can really count on for love and support. As a child I set my basement up as a classroom and offered a “Jump Start 3rd Grade” class to all the second graders in my neighborhood. We learned cursive and times tables. I love teaching. Seeing growth in myself and my students is so rewarding. My little heart swells at the end of the year when I hear my kindergarteners read.

What would you like your students to remember this year? It’s okay to make mistakes. We can try again. We can do hard things.

We love having Mrs. Laidlaw teaching our Kindergarten friends.
