Westridge Elementary School

Where did you grow up?

-Dugway Proving Ground, a military base in the middle of the West Desert in Tooele County. We were 45 minutes away from the closest Walmart. We had one single-screen movie theater that only played a single show each Friday and Saturday night. The only fast-food was a subway inside the base bowling alley. I had a high school graduating class of 25 students–and that was a large class for my school.

What is your favorite food?

-Steak and shrimp

What is your least favorite food?

-peas and mustard

What is something unique or surprising about you?

-I went skydiving for my 30th birthday and spent a month in India on a humanitarian trip. I used to travel a LOT.

What is your favorite subject to teach?

-Math

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

-Mrs. Roberts, high school English. She made essay writing fun and was instrumental in helping me prepare for college.

Why did you choose to be a teacher?

-I love watching a student as they start to understand something that is/was hard or confusing for them. I love the excitement that real learning brings. I love the relationships, both that I have with students and helping them with their relationships with each other.

What would you like your students to remember this year?

– I want them to remember that they are capable of learning anything that they deem important. That they are capable to change and grow into whatever kind of person they want to be. I hope they remember that I believe in them and their potential. I hope they leave believing in themselves.
