Westridge Elementary School

Dear Families of Westridge,

The summer is almost over and it’s time to get ready for a brand new school year! I hope you have enjoyed your summer and are excited to start the new school year with us! I feel extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with the amazing students, parents, and faculty at Westridge Elementary School. I have been counting down the days for school to start because I am so excited to meet our amazing Wildcats and their families! Below you will find some information to help with planning for the new school year. School Begins on August 15th for 1st – 6th Grade students: The first bell rings at 8:35am and class begins at 8:40am. School breakfast is served at 8:10am; we ask that you please do not drop your students off before that time. Please see the attached calendar for school day release times, as we have some additional early out days the first two weeks of school. Parents of Kindergarten Students: Kindergarten students will have assessment conferences with their teachers from Aug. 15-20th. The first day of Kindergarten will be Thursday, August 22nd and we will follow the Early Out schedule (see calendar for specific times for AM and PM classes). Parents of 1st – 6th Grade Students: School will be dismissed at 1:30pm from Aug. 15-23rd for Teacher Professional Development and Parent Conferences. The Parent Conferences will take place on Aug. 21-23rd from 1:30-4:00pm. This is a crucial time for us to come to know you and your child and to ensure that we are anticipating their needs this school year. Back to School Night Open House: Our Back-to-School Night Open House is Tuesday, August 13th from 5:00-6:30pm. During the Open House you will want to visit the gym so you can sign up for PTO, purchase school T-shirts, and receive general information. Then you can go visit the classrooms, talk with the teachers, sign up for a conference time, and sign up for a Kindergarten KEEP testing appointment. I hope you will take a moment and come visit with me too! J Class Assignments: Class assignments were made earlier this summer. Please know that the teachers and former administration put a lot of time and effort into placing your children where they felt they would be most successful. You can access class assignments on Powerschool by visiting the Westridge website www.westridge.provo.edu and clicking on the Powerschool link. Please take a moment and update your Parent Portal account (see attachment for directions) while you are in Powerschool. We need you to pay specific attention to phone numbers, the emergency contacts you have listed, and give permission for your child to use our technology while at school. If you think you may qualify for free or reduced lunch, go to www.schoollunchapp.com and complete the online application. If you prefer a paper application, you may come get one in the main office. If you’re not sure if you will qualify, apply anyway; you might just save yourself some money. We are incredibly excited to see you and we are looking forward to an amazing school year!! If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. See you soon! Mrs. Hawkins Principal
