Safe Routes Discussion – Adrianne Woods ·

Aaron Skabelund – a.skabelund@gmail.com

Aaron Skabelund and Zach Goulding joined us to talk about the “Bike Bus” program.  Aaron lives in the Rivergrove neighborhood and his children went to Grandview.  Zach lives in Orem and his children attend Cascade Elementary.  Zach implemented the “Bike Bus” program at Cascade Elementary to help reduce car traffic in his neighborhood, and to help keep the children safe, due to several street concerns.  The “Bike Bus” runs on Friday mornings.  They have designated meet up points, where they pick up students. There are signs in the yards of the designated pick-up points.  They play music and have snacks/treats at the different pick-up points.  They start at 7:30am and get to school around 7:50-7:55am.  This is a parent-led program.  Zach has seen more support from Orem City due to this program.    Barbie suggested a North and South side “Bike Bus.” Perry wondered about a “Walking Bus” in the winter. Adrianne will speak to Brenae Tanner, PTO President, to see if there is a parent that would interested in getting the program started.  The council wondered if the Rivergrove/Lions Park area would be a good starting point.  Maybe a “Walk Bus” to get up the stairs at Lions Park.   More information about the “Bike Bus” program can be found on Instagram under Coach Balto.

Other:

Barbie would like to get the city to add lines to the narrow roads to 11 feet.

Aaron stated that the city will be adding bike lanes to 1700 & 1720

Trustland Plan Goals for 2025-2026 – Plan Voted On & Approved by the Council

Our goal for the 2025-2026 school year is that 80% of Kindergarten through 6th-grade students will make typical or above progress on the Acadience Pathways of Progress (POP) End of the Year (EOY) assessment. The Acadience assessment helps teachers determine how students are performing on essential reading skills. These critical reading skills include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension.   Our goal for the 2025-2026 school year is that students in 3rd through 6th grade will increase their math scores by 3%, and students in 4th through 6th grade will increase their science scores by 3% as measured by the end-of-year RISE test data.

Funding Use for 2025-2026:  Approximately $97,000 Funding will be used to hire Instructional Assistants who will help teachers with interventions and extensions for students.  Instructional Assistants will be trained on research-based intervention programs and will teach those programs to students identified as needing more intensive instruction in reading and math.

Extra Funding Any additional funds will be used to hire more instructional assistants, purchase math computer software programs, headphones for those software programs, or other math or science supplies and manipulatives.
