Hello Westridge Parents!
At the end of January, we will hold our annual STEM Fair. Our STEM Fair is a place where our students can showcase projects that demonstrate their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The goal is to foster creativity, critical thinking, and interest in pursuing STEM careers by allowing students to research, design, conduct experiments, and present their findings to others; essentially, it’s a platform for students to learn hands-on and share their STEM knowledge with their peers.
One of the most difficult parts of a STEM Fair project is finding a problem or question for students to research. However, all you need to do is look for an everyday problem and then try to find a solution to the problem. Another idea is to explore a topic that interests your child. Have your child ask a question related to the topic, and then find answers to the question through experimentation. The process that they go through is then presented at the STEM Fair. Projects do not need to be complicated or expensive; they just need to be meaningful to your child. The basic steps of a STEM fair project are:
Identify a problem or question
Document, research, experiment, collect & analyze data, draw conclusions, and answer the question or solve the problem
Create a presentation and present the information to the judges
The STEM Fair is a great opportunity for our students to explore the world around them and apply what they have learned. We would love to have your children participate in the STEM Fair this year. More information will be sent home soon, but we wanted to give you the opportunity to start brainstorming ideas with your children.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the office. We are more than happy to help!
Thanks for your continued support!
