Provo City School District

Westridge Elementary School

Hello Westridge Parents!

Happy New Year!  I  hope your Winter Break was full of family, relaxation, and fun!  School will resume on Tuesday, January 7th at 8:40am.  Please have your children meet their teachers on the north playground at 8:35am.

Please remember to contact the office each day if your child is going to be absent, and please take a moment to add money to your child’s lunch account so they don’t have a negative balance.

I know the district has sent out multiple emails over the last few weeks about the new district cell phone policy, but I want to ensure you are aware of this new policy.  Please see the message below.

• More Focused Learning Environment

• Increased Student Engagement

• Increased Student Achievement

• Consistency District Wide

• Ensure student safety and well-being

• Encourage responsible and respectful use of technology

• Support effective classroom management practices

At the elementary school level, all cell phones, smart watches and Gab watches, headphones, and earbuds are not to be seen, heard or used in the school building or on the playground during school hours.  Electronic devices must be stowed away in a backpack, secured by the student, and set to a mode where notifications cannot be received.  Smart and Gab watches must be set so that notifications cannot be received by students.

If students need to communicate with a parent or guardian, they may use their cell phone in the front office with permission.  Students are only to contact parents or guardians who may be assisting them with a crisis during the school day.

Remember, your child will always have access to a school phone if they need to contact you.  If you’d like to read more about the new district policy or to find out how this policy will impact your middle school or high school children, you can go to the following website:  https://provo.edu/board-approves-new-electronic-devices-policy/

Thanks for your continued support!
