  • Mystery Science…How do germs get inside your body?

    • Watch this video.
    • Discuss the following questions with someone.
      • How do germs get inside your body?
      • What did this lesson make you curious about?
      • What other questions do you have about germs?
    • Comic Strip Worksheet
      • What you need:
        • Comic strip worksheet, pencil, crayons, and a fine point marker if you want to trace over your writing. 
      • You can’t see germs because they’re so tiny. Imagine if you were the size of a germ. You could float through the air in a drop of water. You could travel anywhere and no one would see you. Where would you go? What would it be like? Using the worksheet, write a comic of what your day would be like if you were the size of a germ. Must include: pictures, talking bubbles, color, name on top.

  • Officer Buckle and Gloria

    • Look at the cover of this book.  Make a prediction about what you think will happen in this story and share it with someone.
      • A prediction is a guess of what you think will happen by using clues.  The picture on the cover is your clue.

    • Click the book to listen and watch the story.
    • After the story discuss these questions with someone.
      • What was the safety problem at the school when Officer Buckle was gone?
      • What happened to the kids?
      • What did Mrs. Toppel do?
      • Where did the hammer land?
      • What happened to Claire?
      • What could have happened to Claire if she hadn’t been wearing her helmet?
      • Why do we have safety rules or expectations at school, home, and other places we visit?
    • Worksheet
      • What you will need:
        • Be Safe worksheet, pencil, crayons, fine point marker
      • Write a safety tip that everyone needs to remember when we are at school or home.
        • Use your best handwriting.
      • Draw a picture (using your pencil) of  what it should look like and what it should not look like.
      • Color your picture.
      • Trace your writing.
  • My Mouth is a Volcano

    • Talk with someone about what interrupted means.
      • Discuss times that you have interrupted or someone has interrupted you.
      • How do you feel when someone interrupts you?
    • Click on the book to listen how the characters in My Mouth is a Volcano feel about being interrupted.
    • Discuss these questions with an adult.
      • What was Louis’ problem in the story?
      • Why is it unkind to interrupt?
      • Is there ever a time that you should interrupt?
      • Louis’ mom helped him come up with a way to help him from “exploding”.  What is something else that you could do?
    • Volcano Activity
      • What you will need:
        • Volcano papers (black, brown, red, and gray construction paper and small white lined paper), pencil, glue stick or tape, fine point marker, and scissors.
